Murchison Falls National Park is home to a wide range of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, and crocodiles. Game drives on the northern bank offer classic savannah safari experiences with high chances of sightings, especially during the dry season.

We found an abundance of Wildlife at Murchison falls national park that would match parks in Kenya and Tanzania along with the worlds most powerful waterfall.

Where I found and felt the 'safari' aspect of the tour with an early morning game drive and an afternoon Nile boat cruise with an abundance of hippos in the water and along the shores with elephants, various hooved species, and other wildlife. I saw all the 'Big 5' except a leopard. Murchison Falls is also very impressive though tour descriptions are very outdated and there's no walking on any trails at base of the falls when boats can't even come near the falls with force of the output.

Excellent safari location!

I visited Murchison Falls National Park in July 2010 for my first safari experience ever. I'm from the U.S. and had never been to Africa, so this was a really fun new experience for me. I stayed at the Paraa Safari Lodge, which was very comfortable: clean rooms, good selection of food (compared to other places in Uganda), and a swimming pool!

The weather was warm, 80-85 degrees, and was a mix of sunny and overcast throughout the five days I was there. I was on the trip with my father, who had a personal friend who was also a guide take us out on the safari. This was nice, because it was just the three of us in the vehicle and we could go out for however long we wished, and stop for whatever my father and I wanted to look at.

The wildlife was beautiful... fifteen minutes into our first drive out we had to stop for a giraffe crossing the road right in front of us. We saw dozens of giraffes, elephants, baboons, water buffalo, hippos, and more. The only
Read more popular animal we didn't see was a lion... they are really tricky to spot, considering they are the best predator out there. However, when my brother made the same trip with my father a month later, they saw a lion, so they can be found, you just have to be patient and look!

Overall, it was a fantastic experience. I have hundreds of photos and video footage to keep forever. My tips would be to pack plenty of clean clothes you can sweat in. I completely changed outfits 2-3 times a day from being so covered in dirt, sunscreen, and sweat. Driving out in the bush will get you very dirty. Also, bring long shirts, pants, and bug spray. My father got malaria from a mosquito bite out there and was dangerously ill for weeks. Visit a doctor and get malaria pills to take before this trip!

A fantastic opportunity to view wildlife and scenery from the Nile River.

I visited Murchison Falls with Red Chili (out of Kampala) during a short break while I was in Uganda shooting photos for an NGO called One School at a Time. The trip was excellent. We stayed at the comfortable Red Chili camp, where the food and accomodations were comfortable (tent cabins and a large dining cabana), and where a short stroll from camp afforded opportunities to see warthogs and monkeys or the Nile River. The rolling landscape in the park includes forest and savannah vegetation, with large herds of giraffes, groups of elephants, many antelope, hippos, buffalo, monkeys, and occasional predators (lions and leopards), among other African animals. The highlight of the trip was a long boat ride up the Nile River to the base of Murchison Falls itself, where Ernest Hemingway once survived a plane crash that killed his companions. On the boat, one enjoys a fantastic vantage from which crocodiles, elephants, cape buffalo, families of hippos, and exotic birds can be observed in
Read more comfort, while sipping Nile Beer and enjoying the cool river breeze. The boat takes you to the very base of the spectacular falls before returning downriver to your starting point. In addition to the park, the drive from Kampala to Murchison is a chance to see a cross section of the Ugandan countryside, and to enjoy lunch and a walk around one of the towns en route. Overall, my trip to Murchison Falls with Red Chili was a highlight of my time in Uganda. Photos on flickr under my username: kdriese.

I came to Murchison Falls National Park after three days of rafting in south Uganda. We entered the park with a Safary truck, which is a very nice way to travel across the country and watch alot of monkeys and deers running next to you.
Then we took a boat and sailed on the Nile, next to crocodiles and hippopotamus, and on land you can see elephents and wild boars, hwaks and many kinds of beautiful birds.
The diversity is amazing. Our guide was very nice although I must admit that I was fascinated by the colors&sounds so I didn't listen a lot...
After the sail, we went by foot through the bush, to get closer to the falls. The weather was fantastic, and the view was wonderful. The Murchison Falls are so impressive with their strength and noise, and I needed to balance between looking with my eyes, and looking through the camera.
Like I said - An amazing experience!

Paradise on the Nile

Saw much game as we flew in low and slow to Pakuba airfield, where we were collected by pre-arranged transport from a lodge on the Nile. The trip to the lodge was rugged & slow, allowing more game viewing at close quarters. The terrain included open plains with sparse scrub, and densely wooded gulleys. Excellent weather enabled a boat trip from the lodge to Murchison Falls (approximately 20km). The guide was experienced and informative. There were uncountable hippos, Nile Crocs, buffalo and other game on the banks of the swift flowing river. Many species of birds make their homes in almost vertical sandy cliffs along the river. We were able to step on to a tiny island just downstream of the falls to get a breathtaking view of the the Nile forcing it's way through a narrow crevice (Murchison Falls).
The accommodation at the lodge was spotless and the service very friendly. We dined on Nile Perch and Tilapia, another local fish, & good wines were available. The spacious

One full day packed with wild life and scenery that only Africa can offer

There is genuine feeling of visiting Africa of the past when experiencing Murchison Falls National Park. The wildlife is plentiful and the tourist are few. It is such a large geographical area that there is a sense of being in a remote part of the world. There is both simple & inexpensive as well as upscale accommodations available in the park. There was freedom to drive you own vehicle around or have a guide take you. The boat trip up the river to the falls is well worth the 3 or 4 hours. The encounters with the Hippos and river creatures was exciting. As a professional photographer / videographer there was plenty of opportunity to captures images that will forever stimulate the imagination.
