1-day safari (Arusha National Park), September 15, 2023

After a wonderful 4-day safari with L&D Lion Guides Safaris to Tarangire National Park, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, I decided to book a day safari to Arusha National Park on September 15, 2023. I spent 22 months in Arusha and saved the best (and closest) to last. Since I had a residence permit, I got the trip a little cheaper.

In the morning, the tour guide Lukiano first went to the car inspection and then picked up the lunch boxes. Accompanied by his wife Dorit, Lukiano drove us to the entrance of Arusha National Park.
The highlights I really wanted to see were a tree that you could drive through, the Hatari Lodge, known for hosting the film crew of the movie "Hatari!" with John Wayne and Hardy Krueger (I didn't see the movie until I returned to Austria) and a lake with flamingos.

At the entrance to the national park we were greeted by baboons, we also saw many species of birds, zebras, giraffes and at the end even a herd of elephants.

We ate at the Hatari Lodge, with a beautiful view of giraffes and warthogs. Since you had to book in advance for lunch at the lodge, we were lucky enough to be able to eat the lunch boxes we had brought with us there.

After a wonderful excursion, there was a final chat in a café in Arusha with Dorit.

Small team with a big heart - a unique, personalized and most incredible safari experience!
5/5

My husband and I went on a safari for our honeymoon and could not have had a better experience. From the start, communication with Dorit to organize the entire trip was smooth, with quick replies and helpful tips. We met our guide, Lukiano, on the Seronera airstrip where we began our journey – and what a journey it was!
We saw so many animals, including the big 5 (even a rhino in Serengeti, which is, as we were told, extremely rare – we think it’s probably due to our guide’s nickname – Lucky). We saw the Great Migration. We had a pride of lions chilling next to our jeep. We had zebras blocking our way, saw baby elephants goofing around and enjoyed a cold beer watching baby cheetahs playing in the sunset. We loved learning more about the nature and animals with Luciano, as well as about the Maasai culture. But while he is very knowledgeable, what we loved most was the sheer excitement he shared with us when we watched these animals! As if we were all seeing them for the first time.
If you want the best safari experience, choose Lion Guides Safaris. :)

Dorit and Luciano were so super! Left us all the time we needed, explained a lot about the trees and animals.
They booked a amazing lodge!!!! Tents, like a 4-star-hotel!!! Where can you otherways face an elephant, when you're open the door of your room in the morning?
We came as foreigners and left as friends.
A big hug and thank you for everything!!!!

Hi everyone, we’re just visited Kilimanjaro a week ago! It was unforgettable. Guide picked up us in our hotel and we started our 3 days trip. Lucky prepared everything perfect, food for us was amazing and fresh, cooked by his wife. We saw so many animals in Tarangire National Park, visited Ngorongoro crater, stopped in beautiful and comfortable lodges, spoke about local culture, swam in the waterfall Materuni, and tasted local coffee in Materuni village. I honestly recommend Lion Guides Safari. You will get beautiful holidays, and unforgettable memories. Thk you Lucky for such a great time we spent with u.

Dorit and Lukiano were life changing, impeccable, fun, and the best guides in Africa
5/5

To start, we want everyone to know this review took us two weeks to write. It took us two weeks to write because of the tremendous impact that Lukiano and Dorit, with Lion-Guide Safaris had on our lives. We’ve been to 50+ countries and seven continents. We’ve hired guides all over the world. I used to guide rafting and hunting in Montana near Yellowstone National Park. Our expectations are incredibly high, especially when we decided to travel to seven countries in Africa, all in under three weeks.
The truth is, we researched and found Lion-Guide Safaris in February of 2025. We spent a year planning this trip to Africa. After extensive research, we though Dorit and Lukiano with Lion-Guide Safaris were the best fit for us, as well as some of the top guides in Africa. I was high maintenance with Dorit regarding the number of questions I asked, the preparation that went into the trip, and questions we had during the trip. Dorit absolutely nailed the planning for the trip. Her knowledge of Africa, different adventures, options on the trip, and communication were impeccable. Overall, we were low maintenance travelers that had an absolute blast with Lukiano, even though we were high maintenance when asking a lot of questions.
We flew into Tanzania near Mount Kilimanjaro. Lukiano picked us up, he was early to the airport! Over several days, we drove to Tarangire National Park, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. The days were epic. We saw a lion eating a wildebeest it had just killed, leopards hunting and dragging dead animals’ up trees, and spotted every game animal you can imagine, almost always within 50 meters of our vehicle. Lukiano is very communicative on the radio, he is constantly talking to other guides about spotting different animals. He never stops and his persistence for finding animals made our trip one of the best we will ever take in our lives.
In just two days, we saw the big five in Africa. Furthermore, we spent so much time up close with male and female lions, we became accustomed to seeing them. We saw several prides that had baby cub lions, which were adorable. After our adventures, we traveled to Rwanda and Uganda by private plane. We met Dan, one of Dorit and Lukiano’s fellow guides for Chimpanzee and Gorilla Trekking. The experience was out of this world. We had both Chimpanzees and Gorillas under three feet from us. Dan knew the culture, language, employees, etc. The experience was absolutely dialed. After that, we transitioned to Zambia and Zimbabwe for more fun on the Zambeze River, where we rafted, bungee jumped, ziplined, and repelled Victoria Falls. We also took a helicopter tour of the falls, which we strongly recommend.
In closing, the truth about Dorit and Lukiano from Lion-Guide Safaris is they made this trip very personal for us. You could tell that they both truly cared about us, our experience, and success on the trip. They weren’t just in it for a paycheck; they were in it to create an experience that transformed the lives of my wife and me. Again, seven continents, 50+ countries, these two are the most personable, fun, and successful guides we’ve ever met, heard of, or personally hired.
You’d be crazy not to hire Lion-Guide Safaris for an experience that will transform your life for decades to come. Feel free to reach out via phone or text with any questions about our experience.
Best,
Michael W. and Jules A.

Lucky with Lion Guides safaris, great experience!!!
5/5

It was a great experience, beyond what we all expected, the game drives, the hotels, the food, and the most important the guide.
Lucky is the best guide: great experience, great knowledge about the wildlife, the parks, always willing to find where the action is, the way to explain the Tanzanian culture, etc !!! Very friendly and great vibes!

I definitively recommend “Lion guides safaris” and Lucky for everyone to live a safari experience

The best experience ever!!!
5/5

We were a group of seven people traveling through Tanzania in February 2026 with Lion Guides Safaris, and it truly became one of the most extraordinary experiences of our lives.

From Arusha to Tarangire National Park, Ndutu, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Lake Manyara, every destination was unforgettable. What made the journey exceptional, however, was Luky. His deep knowledge of Tanzania’s culture, daily life, and especially the Maasai tribe added a meaningful dimension to the safari. He generously shared stories, traditions, and insights that allowed us not only to see the country, but to truly understand it.

Luky’s positive energy is unmatched. His passion, professionalism, and dedication exceeded all of our expectations. Thanks to his expertise and familiarity with every location we visited, we were able to see the Big Five — an incredible highlight of our trip. As he says, “Tanzania is my office,” and you can genuinely feel how much he loves sharing his country with the world.

Thank you, Lion Guides Safaris, for creating such an unforgettable experience for all of us.

We highly recommend Lion Guide Safaris to anyone who wants more than just a safari — to anyone who wants an authentic cultural experience combined with breathtaking landscapes and wildlife. If you are considering Tanzania, this is the team to book with.

Lukianos enthusiasm for nature is contagious!
5/5

Lukiano, the chef of Lion Guides, is the best guide, we ever met. He is an expert in flora, fauna and wildlife and he loves to share his knowledge with his guests by telling personal stories, full of humor and details about animals behavior. Every question was answered!

Our game drives and walking safaris were varied and successful; we were able to observe Africa’s Big Five and countless other species up close, especially his enthusiasm for birds made us listen and searching for all the species.

In addition he is an excellent driver, even under bad road conditions. All Lodges and the hole trip had a diligent planning, we experienced great hospitality.

We came as customes and left as friends! Thank you very much Lukiano!
