Great organisation and full day exploring
We booked a one day Mount Longonot and Lake Naivasha tour, and Meterai were great all the way from booking to the tour on the day. We ended up taking more time than anticipated, and an extra visit to Crescent Island but we had a great day exploring this amazing part of Kenya. Thank you Liz, John and the team!

Driver: unpuncture and racist behavior
My driver Sal** was late for the departure in the morning. I had to wait 25 minutes in the morning and two other guests even waited for an hour.
After the tour, on our way back to the drop off (individual lunch), the driver kept on insisted that I get off the car and walk even before arriving the final destination because there is traffic jam and he was unhappy with it. It was a 10 minutes walk. I was okay with walking but there were 3 guests out of 4, including me, who were going to the same destination.
So I told him nicely, even if I get off here, he has to go through all this traffic jam anyways, since two other people are also going to the same place and they are not willing to walk.
However he kept insisting only at me to get off the car because apparently I was the only Asian guest. He kept making gestures showing complaints, kept turning off/on the car engine, and asked “have you made up your mind to get off here?”.
He was clearly discriminative because he didn’t say anything at two other Kenyan guests who were heading to the same destination. I was very upset that the other Kenyan guests even apologized instead for his behavior on behalf of all the Kenyan people.
This has been my third safari tour in Kenya/ fifth in East Aftica and he has been the worst driver ever.
John, who was in charge of the booking was trying to be helpful and was apologetic when I called him about this issue. However, I would like to hear clear follow up measures on how you would deal with this issue and the driver.

Amazing experience
I had a really good time and it was an amazing experience seeing the animals in their natural habitat. I booked a day trip, but we started the game drive around 4pm, which limited how much we could see—I only managed to spot two of the Big Five. It would be great if they could adjust their timings for day visitors so there's more time to explore. Overall, it was still a memorable experience, and the guide was fairly okay.

Posted on Jun 5, 2025Dear Gano,
Thank you so much for your kind review! We're glad to hear you had a memorable experience and enjoyed seeing the wildlife in their natural habitat.
We appreciate your feedback about the timing of the game drive. Since this was a shared day safari, the group arrived around midday just in time for lunch which is why the game drive started in the afternoon. We aim to balance comfort and coordination for all guests, and sometimes this affects the amount of time available in the park.
That said, your suggestion is valuable, and we'll continue improving our shared safari logistics. For future guests seeking more time in the park, we always recommend our private or early-start full-day safaris.
Thanks again for choosing Meterai Safaris — we hope to host you again soon for an even richer experience!
Warm regards,
The Meterai Safaris Team

Professional, hospitable and very accomodating
I availed the services of Meterai Safaris because they had been patient in answering my questions about the tour. They have organized my tours according to my preferences and have given me options and suggestions as well. My contact person is John and I am amazed on how fast he organized my last minute requests. He always follow up if everything is okay and if there is anything I need. The tours are well organized, the drivers and the tour guides are professional and kind. Great shout out to Ian, my Masai Mara driver and guide.

Very reliable and flexible. Professional, friendly and helpful organisation. Went to Amboseli.
Having been to Kenya many times, first when I was 15. I am 62 now I had booked 2 nights in Amboseli with John Amwayo from Meterai Safaris. Hoping to get the iconic picture with an elephant in front of Mount Kilimanjaro
I came down to Nairobi after 6 nights in Laikipia where my cameras captured nice meetings with Giza Mrembo, the black female leopard. There I booked direct with the Wilderness camp.
I met John at the office and the driver/guide Jackson on the meeting point at Njuganas.
I shared the Amboseli safari with a very nice Spanish couple. It was not easy to get my dream picture as we are not allowed offroad. But first morning got it. It was so nice also seeing Kilimanjaro clear long time. I walked up to the summit, Uhuru Peak from Tanzania 2003. Also now did a very nice short bush walk with two Massai from Nyati camp.
I have published many wildlife books and reports.

Efficient, Reliable and Good Communication
I went on a 3 day safari to Amboseli in January and it was a great experience. I opted for the joiner tour so was paired up with a group of girls and it was really good. We saw lots of animals, the accommodation was comfortable, and the food was tasty. Overall, the whole experience was a lot of fun.
Only thing to improve would be more water. We were given a litre a day which is not enough in this heat, at least 2 litres should be given. Additionally it got very hot in the vehicle when we were driving to and from Nairobi. The AC did not work and it was unbearable at times.
Also, don’t bother with the additional sunrise walk. It’s extortionate at $20 and not worth it at all.

The Safari was good organized.
Our safari in Amboseli National Park was a wonderful experience overall. From the very beginning, the organization was excellent. The pickup was perfectly on time, which immediately gave us a good feeling and showed how professional the company is.
The safari jeep was very impressive – comfortable, well maintained, and perfect for exploring the park. The food and refreshments during the trip were also very good and well prepared, which made the long day in the park even more enjoyable.
Our driver made a real effort to find animals for us, and thanks to his dedication we were able to see everything we had hoped for. We were very satisfied with the wildlife experience and appreciated how hard he worked to make sure we had a successful safari.
One small downside was that the driver did not talk very much and did not explain a lot about the animals or the park. A bit more information and storytelling would have made the experience even better.
However, we were especially grateful that the driver made it possible to drop us off at the airport, even though it was a different location than the original plan. This flexibility helped us a lot and made our travel much easier, and we were very happy about it.
Overall, it was a great safari experience with good organization, a fantastic jeep, good food, and a very dedicated driver who made sure we saw the animals we came for.

Excellent Safari Tour - Highly Recommend
We had an incredible experience with Meterai Safaris on our January trip to the Maasai Mara! As a group of three girls traveling together, we felt completely taken care of from start to finish.
Richard was an exceptional host and guide. He truly listened to what we wanted out of the experience and tailored the safari to fit our preferences, which made it feel personal rather than scripted. When our flights changed at the last minute, the company was incredibly flexible and accommodating—making what could have been stressful feel seamless and easy. Airport pickup and drop-off were right on time, and the transitions were smooth throughout.
The safari itself was unforgettable. We saw 3 of the Big 5, and Richard went above and beyond—doing some seriously impressive driving and tracking to help us spot animals that are notoriously hard to find. You could tell he was experienced, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in making sure we had the best possible sightings.
The entire trip felt safe, well-organized, affordable, and thoughtfully planned. We couldn’t have asked for a better Maasai Mara experience and would absolutely recommend Meterai Safaris to anyone looking for a customized, stress-free adventure.
