Having lived in South Africa for over 25 years I have been privileged enough to travel extensively through the wonderfully diverse landscapes the country has to offer. It has something for everyone from its rugged coastlines of the Western Cape to the Majestic mountain ranges of the Drakensberg. The wildlife, although often limited to its national parks and private reserves, is abundant and can offer visitors any number of jaw-dropping and even life-changing experiences. South Africa allows for one to get away from it all, which is more suited to the adventurer. It can also cater to the urban cats who enjoy living it up in its vibrant multi-cultural cities.

It has something for everyone and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Lots to see and experience from Cape Town to Cape of Good Hope to garden route, traveling on a coast from Atlantic to Indian Ocean. Variety of plants and animals for you to capture your memories!

As a country South Africa is surprisingly beautiful. It's landscapes and habitats are varied and stunning. The roads and infrastructure are much better than you would expect for an African nation and the people are so friendly.

In my opinion South Africa is perfect for safaris especially if it's your first or second time in Africa. You have the wildlife mostly intact and often pretty close (compared to some Eastern African Countries), usually it's not to crowded and you get the same standards in food and accomodation you're used to, often even better.

The only reason I gave one 4-star rating is because the South African bush is much more dense than areas like Kenya and Tanzania where it can be easier to spot game from further off. That said; it does bring an additional sense of adventure to South African game drives, because you really feel like you're tracking animals in order to find them.

South Africa has many things to offer and the variety is just exceptional. In Cape Town the amazing view of the Table Mountain as a backdrop to the Victoria Waterfront during sunset is seen to be believed. The scenery on the Garden Route and the food topped with a winetasting day makes for a memorable holiday. The crowning glory of a South African tour is the private safaris....... and ours was at the Thornybush Game Reserve.
The lodge is simply outstanding with the room overlooking a water hole. The sightings of smaller game coming to the waterhole while having a shower is, I suppose "exclusive"....
Got the big five, including the sight of a leopard jumping from one tree to another as well as a baby elephant rubbing its forehead on the side of the open land rover, right where I was sitting!!!!
The meals were great and the price was extremely reasonable. The tracker was exceptional....
The lodge also organizes walks and that is where the tracker explains the differences between the pug marks of a lion and a leopard.

The reason I ranked South Africa so high is because not only is Kruger a fantastic place to view wildlife in wide open, endless plains, but heading south to Capetown and the coast was some of the most breathtaking country I've ever seen. The natural and cultural combination was so very interesting. Because English is widely spoken, and there are profound European influences mixed with traditional African villages, it was a very rich experience. The opportunities for adventure are endless.

South Africa is a wonderful country as it is not too dissimilar to many western countries eg: fantastic hotels, restaurants, good roads, great food, however, it has its own unique favour in its culture, scenery and wildlife.

It is a safe destination (as safe as anywhere in the world) providing the rare opportunity to combine fantastic game viewing with get scenery (Table Mountain, Drakensberg Mountains, Beaches etc) and great accommodation. You can easily self drive here (I have done it with my family).
