We booked a three day safari at Selous Game Reerve with Hippocamp adventure rufiji river and we spent one of the best moments in our life.
Everything was perfect: the agency, the camp, the wildlife, food, transportation, and specially the guide who was the best who could have to live the great expérience.

He wasn't only a guide. He was always availabe and wanted to be sure that every minutes of out trip was good for us.
He constantly get managed to find all animals to satisfy us.
He was helpfully, always smiling and very professionnal.
We were very sad to leave him after three days.
Donatus was very reactive by email to give us all informations from France before the safari.
Mickael picked up us at the hotel at Dar es Salam with the 4×4 and we drove directly to the camp during 6 hours.
And we arrived, we have been welcomed by the staff.
All food and water is including expect soft drinks and alcohool.
The
Read more first day we made a boat safari on the rufiji river during 2 hours. There, we met hippos, crocodiles and a lot of birds.
The sunset was beautiful.
The day after, we made the safari in the reserve near the camp. We spent all the day from 8 am to 6pm.
We saw girafes, hippos, waldos, crocodiles, elephants, zebras, antilopas , birds, monkeys, lions, buffalos.
The landscapes were so beautiful that you have the feeling to be on another planet.
The last day, very early in the morning, we did a walking safari with a traditional hunter, Didi. It was an amazing meeting. Very impressive and unforgettable.
After the safari, we spendt 7 days at Zanzibar, so the agency was very nice to book the tickets boats and to leave us at the port.
The bungalow where we spendt 2 nights was very clean and confortable.
The electricity is cut off the night from 10 pm to 7 am.
To conclude, it was a big experience for all of us and we are glad to have it in these conditions and with this agency.

Seeing elephants wander through the plains in the pouring rain makes me rate our safari 11/10.

This was one of my favorite experiences E V E R and let me tell you why:

- We visited four places (Serengeti, Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara) and all of them were different in terms of landscape and animals. The endless plains of Serengeti really are endless and nothing beats the surreal feeling of being small and overwhelmed by the vastness of this park. Tarangire is golden, the combination of baobab trees and elephant families is everything. Ngorongoro gave us apocalyptic vibes and was home to hundreds of zebras and buffalo. Lake Manyara changed my hate to monkeys to eternal love to monkeys (baby monkey riding on its mom's back? COME ON).
- Camping is cool, especially if it's in the middle of nowhere. And toilets are really fine!
- Our cook's cooking was impressive. Making pizzas, quiche and tarts in the field kitchen? I couldn't even make a sandwich there.
- Our guide Prayer was the kindest. He was genuinely happy when
Read more we managed to spot all the exciting animals and made us feel really welcome and taken care of.

11/10 would recommend!

Unforgettable safari in Tanzania thanks to Makasa Tanzanian Safaris and our chauffeur Robert

We have just returned from an eight-day safari in Tanzania followed by a five-day beach holiday on Zanzibar Island organized by Makasa Tanzanian Safaris. Selma and Ngomi happened to be there in our first hotel and waved us goodbye as we set off on what would later appear to be an unforgettable safari. Our stay in the two different tented camps in the Serengeti being one of the highlights! Our chauffeur Robert was the best guide one could hope for: he was very friendly with a great sense of humour and had extensive knowledge and expertise in wildlife, nature in general and birdlife. Furthermore we could ask him anything including questions about life in Tanzania in general.
Not only did we see the Big Five, including the leopard, but also the annual great wildebeest migration. These experiences left an undelible impression on us. The safari also covered the famous Ngorongoro Crater and the National Park Lake Manyara: especially the view at the rim of the Crater is spectacular. After
Read more our safari in Tanzania we spent 5 days at the Z-Hotel in Zanzibar where we stayed in a beautiful villa at a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Very helpful and accommodating staff who did everything possible to make our stay a pleasant one. We could also enjoy the full use of hotel facilities: we recommend dining on the beach. It should come as no surprise that we will recommend Makasa Tanzanian Safaris and its chauffeur Robert, should you consider a safari in beautiful Tanzania!

No better place to go on safari

We booked a private guide/driver through Ruge, an independen in Arusha. The guide for us was Dixon. Dixon was the finest guide we have had and we have traveled the world. He used to be a porter for groups climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and is working to earn his degree. We chose the Ngorongo Crater as home base and that proved to be the best of all options. At this time of the year (January) the migration is only 2 hours west of the crater. Thus, you have day trip access to the crater itself (actually much better game viewing there than Serengeti), Serengeti and Lake Manyara, three distinctly different ecosystems. We chose the Ngorongo Neptune Lodge, which rates among the best 2 lodges we have stayed in worldwide. This combination proved to be the best one I can possibly imagine. We have been on previous safaris to Kruger in South Africa and Botswana. We had the luxury of our personal guide, a pop up Land Rover and a 5 star resort which was all inclusive. The total cost for 5 days
Read more and 4 nights, including pick ups and drop offs at Mt. K Airport, was $4400, or $2200 per person, a tremendous bargain for this fine adventure. We added 2 days in Nairobi, including tours of the Sheldrick Elephant Sanctuary and Giraffe Center, for another $450 pp. We coordinated all this on our own, which goes to show you can pull together a customized, week long trip to Kenya and Tanzania without blowing your whole wad. We also got great fares from Kayak.com on Airline tickets.

The wildlife was really exiting. I saw many animals in the nature. I also climbed the Kilimanjaro. This was one of my best experiences I ever did so far. It is really impressive and also a real test for your body and mental skill. I really suggest to you to do this.
On the other hand I realised that you as a Tourist are just enough to pay a lot of money for a safari and not to get really the value for this. I booked with openafricasafari.com and the Price was much to much for this i got. In the same group were 6 other people who paid around 600 dollars for a 3 days safari. (I was booked on a group with maximum of 6 people and I was the 7th person!). The first 2 days was great. The second was so so. But my last day was worthless. A nature walk on the road. Walking straigt to a lake and than the same way back. How boring. Really not an experience. They sold me a nature walk!!!! They promised me to visit a School an a Hospital. We did not. I got some explanation about how bananas grow
Read more and so on. But a normal Person knows this already. The guide came to late in morning and was very surprised that I could walk for 3 hours and I did not call for a taxi, which, of course I would have to pay for it. (all the stupid Tourist are just rich and pay all the time!) Furthermore I had to tell the guide what we gonna visit. Otherwise we would have been back to the Hotel very early. I really paid around 200 dollars to much for this trip. I would not book whith this agency again.
The 3. day. The other 6 persons booked only 3 days. So the guide wanted to leave the game park at mid day. But I booked a full day in this game reserve. Even the others ha in there itinery that they would stay until 3 o'clock. Finally the guide turned around an we continued the game drive. But the day was not good anymore.

It is a shame to treat Tourist like this. Tansania is just a nice country and I met so many good guides on my 2 month journey trough south africa.
I was travelling for 8 weeks with other different tour guides (south africa, Namibia, Botswana and Tansania)and it always was a very good experience. Only the safari with openafricasafari fucked up. I asked for same money back, but,,,,,

Trip of a Lifetime

My wife and I had visited the Welgevonden Game Reserve in South Africa in December 2015 for wildlife viewing. Apart from some wildebeests, some antelopes and some giraffes, we didn’t see much. We didn’t see one lion, we didn’t see one leopard, we didn’t see one cheetah. When asked why we hadn’t seen one of the big cats, both the lodge ranger and the manageress told us that hyenas and jackals had introduced a “mysterious disease” that would kill all big cats. In the whole Welgevonden Game Reserve there was only one lion left.

According to http://www.welgevonden.org/news/2016-news-archives/197-canine-distemper-virus-on-welgevonden-and-the-last-lioness.html, Welgevonden’s last Lioness had died in July 2016:

“On December 10 2015 the carcasses of 3 lions, a large male, adult female and a sub-adult male were observed just outside one of the lodges on the reserve. ... During an afternoon game drive on December 18 2015, one of the western pride females
Read more was observed having a seizure and Canine-Distemper Virus (CDV) was suspected. … However, December 26 2015 brought about the next chapter of the nightmare: the first seizures observed in one of the southern pride’s lionesses…”

We had spent a fortune flying from Australia to Jo’burg, pay for a hire car to get to Welgevonden and a stay in an upmarket lodge.

After this huge disappointment, we flew 16 months later to Tanzania. We did a 10 day private tour with Earthlife Expeditions. We had told Deo where we wanted to go and to see the wildebeest migration, when they were crossing the Mara River. We wanted to see Lake Manyara National Park, the central and the north Serengeti and the Mara River, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park and Arusha National Park.

Deo worked everything out for us and it went like clockwork. In the north Serengeti we watched from a hot air balloon hundreds of thousands of wildebeests migrating north towards the Mara River they needed to cross to get to greener pastures. Agri, our driver/guide was spot-on, when he told us, that the wildebeest would cross the Mara River in 5 minutes. And it did! In total, we have seen 5 or 6 crossings. We even watched a crocodile attacking a wildebeest.

We saw everything, we hadn’t seen in disappointing South Africa, everything we had desired to see, including lots of prides of lions, leopards and cheetahs. We saw herds of elephant mothers and their babies. We had seen hundreds of Hippopotamuses. Agri has a keen eye. He sees everything. In Arusha National Park, Agri spotted even “Colobus monkeys”, we hadn’t seen and wouldn’t have noticed had we been on our own.

Compared with South Africa, we would give Earthlife Expeditions 100 out of 100. We should have got into contact with Deo 16 months ago and gone to Tanzania in the first place!

Bring heeps of US dollars. Everybody wants payment in US$. I brought $3000us I should have brought $6000 for Kilimanjaro, safari, gorillas,Zanzibar, hotels, tips, day trips etc. I did 3 country's in east Africa. A stable currency is preferred over a fluctuating local currency. Foreign owned business have to pay tax in US$ I was told.
