Too expensive and infrastructure can make National Parks difficult to reach. I have been on safari in South Africa and Namibia, which altogether has a more "Western" feel, but also is less expensive, easier to reach by normal car.

Tanzania was beautiful! The people were very friendly. The lodges we stayed at were amazing! We camped 2 nights and stayed at nice lodges the other nights. All were great experiences! We visited the Messiah tribe. Loved Tanzania! We felt safe the whole time we were there.

The are parks of similar size and similar wildlife in other African countries that matches Mikumi.

No doubt Tanzania is a beautiful country. We visited 8 national parks. Tanzania has most animal, bird viewing compared to other countries in Africa. Go to any national park here we can see all animals easily. Ngorogoro crater is absolutely a blissful place. Serengeti had all the animals including big 5 easily seen. But accommodations around parks like mikumi , Ruaha are terrible. The roads are absolutely a nightmare. The road from Ruaha to Mikumi parks took 10 hours long drive. These conditions of the roads discourage tourists. The tour operators are not customer friendly. While the country has abundant animal life in the parks, tourists have very limited decent accommodation around small national parks. Also tourists are not treated the way they are treated in Kenya. Animal viewing is much much better than South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Rwanda. Given opportunity, will definitely choose Ngorogoro and Serengeti over any place in the whole continent.

Safari in Tanzania was unforgettable. We visited Serengeti Park and Nogorongoro Crater. Three days in the car, but it was not boring. A lot of animals - especially zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, lions. In Ngoringoro Crater the same only more birds. Our tour operator was at a high level, as in Europe.

The guide Samuel was extremely helpful and kind.
Food was good
Weather too hot on Serengeti and just a little rain
Ngorongoro was super cold, make sure to pack a blanket.

Where nature can flourish

We did our Safari in Tanzania for four days in January 2026 and in those four days we learnt a lot of things about animals, about the ecosystem and also about people. We had a good guide who explained us how to recognize male or famale giraffes, how to find a iena just looking at the footprints and the rules to watch animals caring about their safety, just to not disturb them too much. We drove into the Nyerere National Park and it was very surprising how animals live and prosperate without humans. There were all kind of mammals, reptiles and birds and not all expected. There weren't just the typical big five, there were also insects and lizards. We saw so many giraffes, as many hippos, two crocodiles, two pied kingfishers, a lioness with her babies, funny baboons, a group of rare wild dogs who played such as common dogs and a beautiful group of ienas. We were so lucky because they are night predators and we saw them during the day when they were eating a dead hippo. In Tanzania nature
Read more prosperates well because humans are trying to protect it and it's important, all the world have to follow this example. When you start a Safari you don't know which animals are you going to see but this is the game! As our guide said: "nature is unpredictable"; you have to stay silent, you have to be patient and look around you because something amazing, in Tanzania, will appears!
